Frequently asked questions
Who can get an SSS salary loan?
For a one-month loan you need 36 posted monthly contributions; for a two-month loan, 72. In both cases at least 6 must be in the last 12 months. You must be of legal age and under 65, with no past-due SSS loan, and your employer must be updated in its remittances.
How much can I borrow?
One-month loan: the average of your 12 latest posted Regular SS monthly salary credits, rounded up to the next MSC. Two-month loan: twice that. Or the amount you apply for, if lower. Since the Regular SS salary credit is at most ₱20,000.00, the most you can borrow is ₱20,000.00 (one-month) or ₱40,000.00 (two-month).
What is the interest rate?
8% a year on the diminishing balance. Renewals by members who had a penalty condonation in the past five years pay 10%. SSS may adjust the rate for new loans.
When do I start paying?
You pay in 24 equal monthly amortizations, starting the second month after your loan is approved. Each payment is due on or before the last day of the following month.
Why is the amount I receive lower than my loan?
SSS deducts a 1% service fee, interest from the loan date up to the end of the month before your first amortization, and any unpaid balance of a previous short-term loan.
What if I pay late?
Late amortizations have a penalty of 1% a month. Any unpaid balance can be deducted from your future SSS benefits.
